My attention was drawn to reports that Anambra East donated ₦50 million to the incumbent government, while erosion is fast cutting off the only road leading to the largest market in that same area.
If this is true, then we, as leaders, must pause and search our conscience. Something is fundamentally wrong when a community battling for survival is compelled to donate millions instead of receiving help.
It pains me deeply that several of our hardworking communities continue to give so much despite being neglected for years. During our community-to-community visits, I witnessed the painful reality: in Ihiala, people have endured over ten years without electricity, yet they still contributed; in Nawgu, the community primary school has no fence and no safe environment for learning; in Ogbaru, the only access road remains the one built long ago by His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi; in Ayamelum and Achalla, the story is one of abandonment; and even Ogidi, which was almost wiped out by flood, still found a way to donate millions.
My heart bleeds for our people. I ask again — are we cursed, or are we simply the architects of our own pain?
