Nigerian Govt will do something to release Nnamdi Kanu – Abaribe

Posted on December 31, 2023 by Sonia Onoja

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has expressed hope that President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government will release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Abaribe expressed hope that Tinubu’s government would release Kanu in the interest of national unity and cohesion.

Kanu has been locked up since he was arrested in Kenya and subjected to extraordinary rendition to Nigeria.

The Appeal Court discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges.

But the Supreme Court upturned the judgment and ordered a retrial by the Federal High Court.

However, Abaribe said Igbos would vigorously pursue a political solution that could ultimately set the IPOB leader free.

A statement by the Abia South Senator, said: “I’m of the firm belief that this current Federal Government will do something very fast to release Nnamdi Kanu, if for no other reason, but for national cohesion and unity of the country.

“As leaders, we shall continue to press for a solution that will be the best in the circumstance”.
